A love for vintage design and beauty has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Visiting auction houses and flea markets, finding an exquisite piece of antique fabric, lace or embroidery, an unusual button or ribbon have made an everlasting impression on my creativity.
This love of vintage has inspired me to create a collection of one-of-a-kind handmade dolls, something I began designing and making in 2008. Each doll is made by me in my studio in Herefordshire, England.
My materials are sourced locally and from my native Hungary. I use English or Hungarian vintage linen for each doll’s body, which is triple stitched for long lasting durability and then stuffed with local alpaca wool. I use 100% wool for the doll’s hair, which is partly pulled through, partly stitched on.
I never use a template for the embroidered felt face. This is my favourite part to create and I would not want to spoil it with a uniform look or factory feel.
For each doll’s clothes I source and up-cycle vintage fabric, which I embellish further with antique ‘finds’.
